Can birth control pills cause cancer?

Interesting fact, scientists from the University of Aberdeen tell, that regular taking of oral contraceptives can reduce the probability of cancer development and this effect is more evident in premenopausal period. Risk of cancer development is reduced by 12% in women that uses BC pills and they remained protected for 15 years after finishing taking the pills. But from the other side, risk could be increased by 22% if take oral contraceptives more than 8 years.

More than three thousand women in Europe, save their lives through taking birth control pills, which protect them from ovarian cancer. As show to researches of Duke University and "British Journal of Cancer" birth control pills reduce the risk of ovarian cancer by fifty percents.

Italian scientists tell, that oral contraceptives reduce developing of cancer of the colon and rectum by twenty percents. Such results can be achieved by estrogen hormone acting. With the help of it the quantity of bile acids become lower and the risk of cancer respectively become lower.

From the other side, there is a danger of developing cervical cancer in women who takes oral contraceptives pills. Such results shows British journal “The Lancet” devoted to cancer questions. Risk of cervical cancer is much more higher if take oral contraceptives pills for a long time. But after finishing taking BC pills the probability of cancer developing becomes normal within ten years, in other words become equal with women who never took oral contraceptives.

As shows recent studies from the United States, BC tablets can increase the risk of breast cancer in women in post-menopausal period who took the pills before the birth of a first child.

Scientific works shows that physical and emotional problems which experience women in premenstrual period are much easier in those who use birth control drug Yasmin. Active hormone of Yasmin is drospirenon that is much more like natural progesterone. In study took part 700 women, 72% had problems in premenstrual period. Due to taking BC pills Yasmin many women felt relief of premenstrual syndrome aches, about 42%. Also Yasmin pills could bring relief with water retention, tearfulness and depression disorders.
